Here’s more on the SkyDay Fridays why:
SkyDay Fridays are designed to help children develop a personal relationship to climate and sky. We all protect the things we care about but we only care about things we have a personal connection to.
When we integrate art with the STEM disciplines like environmental science we can help our children develop the environmental literacy they need to thrive as ecological citizens. Art integrated with science opens up exciting possibilities for imaginative problem solving and creative collaboration.
That’s what SkyDay is all about! And now our climate and sky needs us. Look up at our sky. Take a picture of it! And post it to Sky Day Project. Kids all over the world just like you are looking up and sharing a different view of the same sky. What do you see? What are you curious about?
As artists we know from personal experience that experiencing the frequencies of natural light and the rhythms of natural movements, like the swaying of trees in the breeze and the passage of clouds overhead, directly stimulate the pleasure centers of the brain, bringing a sense of peace and well being that has been shown to help with concentration, school work and general cognitive development.
Our children have endured more than their fair share of isolation recently. SkyDay Fridays are a creative way to give kids a regular dose of mother nature and a chance to collaborate together on something beautiful and lasting!
SkyDay Fridays connects children to their peers in a safe and creative way.Together your class will collaborate on a beautiful Sky Gallery knowing that children just like them all over the world are looking up and doing the same thing!
The simple fact is we are all a global family, living and breathing under one shared sky. As Nicole Stott famously said “The only border that matters is the thin blue line of our atmosphere that blankets us all”.
