Sky Tables Tips
The point of Sky Tables is to start positive conversations about climate and sky. How you do that is up to you but here are some great tips to help you get started.
The research on climate communication is surprisingly consistent. While many people respond well to the language of science and data others are more likely to engage in conversations that feel more personal and are connected to the things they already care about. (Lots of ideas for both here) For example, some folk are put off by phrases like climate change but respond really well to conversations about protecting our beautiful sky, and keeping our air and water clean. (Side note: Did you know the word ‘sky’ comes from the Old Norse word ský which means clouds or the location where clouds hang out? Back then they didn’t have a term for atmosphere but that is what they were talking about.) So, we’ve found its good to have a mixture of all ages art and science resources on hand and as mentioned we have lots of suggestions for you that have worked in the past here.
Now a note regarding people who are adamant that climate change is a hoax or a conspiracy of some kind. In our view you it’s not up to you to set them straight and probably a waste of your time. Our suggestion? Be polite and let them go on the merry way.
Check out our suggestions table resources and then (1) Make a list of things you want to offer (2) Decide which of those ideas would give you the most joy and (3) Decide which resources you need to have on hand. Then get out there, have fun and make a lot of new friends!
Inspire people worldwide to connect to the one natural resource that truly connects us all - our sky.
