Getting Started with SkyDay Fridays!
The adventure begins by filling your Sky Gallery with beautiful sky photographs!
(1) Show this three minute video to your class. It explains what to do and why.
(2) Show your class the Sky Galleries at SkyDayProject.org. Talk about the video and the galleries. What do you notice? What are you curious about?
(3) In preparation for taking sky photos share our one minute Golden Rule video. It explains that sky photos must ‘Keep it All About the Sky’. This means editing out trees, buildings, people, cables, poles…you get the idea. Just sky! This may mean some cropping after the photo is taken which is a skill that will come in handy for later projects.
(4) Talk about the experience of taking the photos. What did you notice? What are you curious about? (5 minutes.)
(5) Now it’s time to post their photos! Remind everyone about our Golden Rule and about cropping. (2 minutes)
(6) Each student should post at least one sky to your Sky Gallery, either by doing it themselves or with your help. Here’s a quick video about posting and here are written instructions:
Go to skydayproject.org
Click on the ‘Upload Photos’ button on the top RIGHT.
Click on ‘Are you part of a group?’ and choose your Sky Gallery in the drop down menu.
Click ‘Where are you?’ and chose which country you are in.
Click ‘Tap to select your images’ and this will bring up your library of photos on your device. Select which ones you want to post and viola! You’re done!
Homework/Extension Activity
Whenever you see a cool sky don’t just stand there -photograph it! Crop the photo if need and post it to your Sky Gallery. The more sky photos you post the more exciting your Sky Gallery will be by the end of the year!
Question: What do you notice about the way the sky changes over your community? What are you curious about?
